Originally posted by [profile] scribble_myname at All U.S. Internet Providers will be policing downloads by July 12, 2012Seriously. WHAT THE FLYING FUCK WORLD.

"File-sharers, beware: By July 12, major US Internet service providers (ISPs) will voluntarily begin serving as copyright police for the entertainment industry, according to Cary Sherman, chief executive of the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). The so-called “six-strikes” plan is said to be one of the most effective anti-piracy efforts ever established in the US."

The article goes on to give details. After six notices, internet providers will decide to throttle a person's internet speed, or cut it off altogether. I don't know if they will crack down on torrents only, or if it is up to the internet provider. I get the sense it is up to the internet provider. So some people could get away with downloading non torrents, while others might get their internet service cut off. I urge you to click it and read, as we all know people who download.

No more downloading eps of your favorite shows for vidding, gifs, or fanfiction art. No more downloading screencaps possibly. I'm so sorry my friends. I don't even know if BT Guard will work to protect you, but I would google it if I were you. It is a professional service that supposedly can protect you from the invasive eyes of your internet provider.

Just, my friends, please make each other aware. Please be aware of the date JULY 12TH. Mark your calendar and double check with your internet provider by then. If you start receiving notices of downloaded activity, this is why. And your internet service could be throttled or cut off.

Fox News confirms this:

So, you know how CBS is doing a US version of BBC's Sherlock? Yes, I too shuddered in horror when I first found out. But, but, this is so cool! They're gender & race bending Watson!!!!! Joan Watson will be played by Lucy Liu!!!!!!! They actually took a white, male character and make them into an Asian American female character. I'm simultaneously thrilled and astounded. *oh please, please let it be good - crosses fingers *

Run, don't walk to read Summer House. John & Rodney have a summer/forced time off house in Eureka. Hilarity ensues. Fargo is terrified of Rodney; John & Jack commiserate about the geniuses; S.A.R.A.H. reminds John of Atlantis. It's awesome. Sequels: Shore Leave & Sabbatical

Seriously, there are girlfriends and Hawaii Five-0 is the slashiest thing to ever slash. The level of married Steve & Danny are is kind of ridiculous. Oh show.

Also, in possibly my fave stunt casting ever (seriously, why so much stunt casting show?), Papa Caan is on next weeks episode (at least he can act, unlike most of the stunt cast people).

Good: Colin Ferguson (Sheriff Carter on Eureka) has a new pilot. I find him very funny, so hopefully the script is good and this actually gets picked up.

The Colorado Civil Unions bill passed the first hurdle it failed at last year. Yay! If you live in CO, please call your reps.

Infuriating: No uterus having people included in the witnesses during birth control related hearings. If you don't have a uterus, fuck off. You don't get to tell me what to do with mine. Also, birth control is used to treat conditions (some serious) that don't involve not getting pregnant.

Is actually good. Freaking hilarious. I was expecting to be mildly entertained but I giggled or lost it laughing for most of the movie. Also, Chris Pine's eyes are mesmerizing.

Happy Valentine's folks!

People, I am watching Fourtysomething. A show with very little discernible plot and really no redeeming qualities solely because Benedict Cumberbatch is in it (also, Huge Laurie). I may have a problem.

Let's not talk about all the other BC stuff in my Netflix instant queue. Um...yeah.

Originally posted by [livejournal.com profile] moerlin at As of tomorrow, no more subject lines in comments on LJ
I was gonna update this with much happier stuff, but for the past week I've just been so enraged with LJ's asshattery that I've had it to here.

In case you didn't know, on 12/12 they first announced sneakily on the Russian journal of LJ's design guy that with new changes being implemented tomorrow, there will be no more subject lines in comments and that this change was "non-negotiable" (good round-up and translation here). I'm sure you all realize that this will basically make fandom and RP communities unusable. LJ's staff, however, doesn't give a shit. At least 18 pages of 100% negative feedback didn't sway them.

They've backpedaled some and will make keeping comment subject lines optional in some S2 styles, but the default (that 99% of communities are running right now) will decidedly be subject-less! Not to mention that their new and frankly, fucking ugly design will take forever to load and make the site a pain to use on mobile browsers.

And oh, it looks like they might be taking away the drop-down menu to select icons as well, so you'll have to load all your icons as pictures to select them. Lovely. (I will beta-test tonight to see if this is actually true.)

Really, I don't know why I'm surprised. LJ is always fucking with the parts of the site that actually work and breaking them, so this is just another instance of that. Because seriously, who are subject lines hurting by just being there? (And no, it can't be a matter of server strain, considering the new "graphic" interface will definitely be using up more resources - so much fun when there's DDoS attacks!)
As far as I know, they've never once listened to their customers, so those thousands of comments already posted probably won't do shit. I've left a message expressing my concerns about the new comment pages here anyway; so if you want to do that too, go for it! If anything, it helps with the rage. ;)

FYI: Dreamwidth is feeling Christmasy has reacted to LJ's bullshit and has open account creation (no invite codes needed) for the rest of the week. Might be a good idea to get your back-up or new home, whatever the case may be, up and running now.

Star Trek 2009, K/S
AU - Spock is the King of the Federation and Kirk is the Prince of America.
Long, plotty, ridiculous. Characters are slightly OOC, due to the whole AU thing. I love it. Am re-reading for the fifth or sixth time. Be sure to read the sequels as well.

Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea by [livejournal.com profile] jaguarcaine
Hawaii Five-0, McDanno
AU - Danny is a merperson.
Amazing world building, all show and not tell, really rich mythology, good characterizations - just really good story that by all rights shouldn't work but does.

What do you think?

I like it, I'm intrigued. I just don't know if I'm up for a show that's so much angst all the time but I really like the mystery they've got going on. Good job picking a show SMG! Also, how so pretty?

Oh dear

shallanelprin: (TV Buff)
I need another fandom like I need a hole in the head. But...seriously...Hawaii Five-0? Is like good crack. There is banter! There are characters! There isn't really a plot! Or, at least one that holds up at all. Also, pretty pretty scenery from Hawaii & gorgeous actors. Alex O'Loughlin! Grace Park! Scott Caan! Daniel Dae Kim!

And there is good, good fic. I keep getting pulled into tv shows by fic. I read the fic and find it awesome. Then I watch the show. I do things backwards.

I do have a tiny, tiny Trekkie issue with the last episode. "Commander Sisko" was so instant about being a Commander while wearing four pips (aka Captain insignia) and a late series (also meaning it's Captain, not Commander) uniform. Details people!
