Anybody of flist live in Boston or attending/running today? Are you okay?

If you need info or have info about someone at the race, Google People Finder

If you are there and need help in some for or another #bostonhelps and #helpers on Twitter is people volunteering their houses and assistance.

Not in Boston and want to help? List of appropriate charities

Thoughts & prayers with everyone in Boston right now.

Also, seriously, fuck this week. Another horrible anniversary to add to the list of Virginia Tech, Oklahoma City, Waco, and Colombine. All between April 15 and April 20.

I'm fasting from shopping/buying things for Lent. Things I can buy: food, gas, stuff I already use and have run out of (you know - body wash and stuff like that).

So, we're not quite a week into Lent and already my fast from buying things is bringing a lot of stuff into sharper focus. Namely: my shopping problem is worse than I thought.

All problems with behavior start as thoughts and I literally cannot go an hour without thinking of something I want or "need" to buy. I really wish I was exaggerating, but I'm not. I look at my W2 from last year and wonder, where did all the money go?! Serious, serious problem. So, plans for the rest of the year.

more detail about spending habits than you may want )

Welcome back to the land of not sucking. Like, seriously, the last four episodes have been good stuff. I am officially re-engaged.

Also, hi everybody, how've you been?
shallanelprin: (up to no good)
In explaining why fan fiction is totally okay, good grief, Aja Romano has created a truly impressive list of literature (including Pulitzer Prize winners) that quantify as fan fiction. Did you know that Romeo & Juliet is basically fan fiction of an Italian poem? I didn't. The whole list is completely awesome.

And they're both new: Elementary & Arrow.

Elementary is soooooooo good. I love, love the relationship they're building with Holmes & Watson. I love, love this interpretation of those characters. Holmes isn't a complete asshole that you love in spite of that and he shows capacity for growth. Watson's fantastic - she's in charge and she takes none of his bullshit while going along with things because he's usually right. I love how he encourages the development of her deductive abilities and that she sometimes sees things he misses. Just...*flailing* *squee*

The new shows are so good!!!!!!

So, Lucasfilm, Ltd is being sold to Disney. Coming to a theater near you in 2015, Star Wars: Episode 7.

Really?

Actually, if they incorporate the stuff from the books that I love (Han & Leia getting married, Mara Jade, the Solo kids, the Fels, the rebuilding of the Jedi Order, etc) I might be okay with this. Maybe.

Well, now that at least an episode or two has aired of all the shows I'm watching this fall, here's my thoughts on stuff.

Hawaii 5-0, Castle, NCIS, Arrow, Supernatural, Criminal Minds, Vampire Diaries, Beauty & the Beast, Scandal, Grimm, Once Upon a Time, Revenge )

Are you registered? Gotta Register Deadline to register is rapidly approaching in all states.

New Elementary preview!!!!!! I am amused and intrigued.

Arrow - coming this fall to the CW (I'm still disappointed by the lack of Justin Hartley)

A) Really not like Sherlock at all, which is nice
B) It doesn't look like it's going to suck *crosses fingers*
C) It got picked up by CBS for the fall. Yay!

*sigh*

1) Eduardo Saverin, I am disappoint. Everyone who's calling him an American hero for renouncing his citizenship just in time to not pay taxes on the billions he's making off of the Facebook IPO? What. The. Fuck is your problem?! Someone's an American hero by choosing to no longer be American? Taxes are part of being a good citizen. Mr. Saverin profited and benefited from being an American citizen, he should pay his taxes. *headdesk*

If you're claiming to be a Christian and saying "good for him!" may I remind you that Jesus said "Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s..." (Mark 12:17, NKJV).

2) Yet another example of "being gay is a choice, so it shouldn't be protected" bullshit. Whether or not being gay is a choice, a product of one's environment, or genetic doesn't really matter because you know what is most definitely a choice? Your religion. If you can't (legally) be discriminated against for your choice in religion, you shouldn't be allowed to be discriminated against for your sexual orientation or gender identity (both of which are arguably more inborn than religion).
