So last night was the premiere of Bones, the first of my shows to start this fall. Thoughts behind the cut due to spoilers. I did like the episode, it was full of both zany fun and gut wrenching emotional stuff.
On the episode/series as a whole:
I continue to enjoy the partnership of Booth and Bones and the enormous growth the characters have experienced over the course of the series. Good, round characters and character growth are so darn rare in television that it's nice to see and I'm very happy that it continues not just in the two main characters but in everyone else as well.
Over the Pond:
The storyline with Booth and Bones in the UK was very interesting and I think well done. The interaction of cultures, allowing us to see some of the lovely British acting talent and the murder mystery were all very interesting.
Highlights:
- Booth getting out of the car and throwing a fit all while cursing everything English while Bones and the British cop basically roll their eyes. Cam's reaction via phone was also hilarious.
- Nice to see both Booth and Bones getting recognition for their expertise. I like that Booth gave a lecture and isn't just in the UK to accompany Bones.
- Bones turning down the British anthropologist because of Booth. Veeerrry interesting.
- I was actually a bit surprised by the student killing the professor.
Back in the States:
I completely didn't expect Hodgins and Angela to break up. That was heartbreaking and yet it still seemed to work. I hope they get back together later after they work out their issues.
Highlights:
- Hodgins is totally right about the ex not really knowing Angela enough to truly love her.
- Sweets poking the brain
- How the whole team interacted. I finally feel like Cam's really apart of the crazy and just not a bewildered outside observer.
- Clark leaving at the end of the episode because of the crazy/drama. Seriously, soap operas have nothing on the Jeffersonian forensics lab.
- I miss Zach! Especially since the whole "he was operating on pure logic and that's why he became a killer" thing didn't follow logically at all. I can see someone like Zach persuaded by logic into killing but not by a crazy, ritual driven cannibal (because the crazy, ritual and cannibal parts exist outside of the world of logic).

Apparently they only had about a minute to get the rant while the London cops stopped traffic so he could one do one take. I think the rant is possibly the best part of that episode.
