The Internet Is No Reason To Abandon Proper English

Really. I really, truly mean that. You should still spell out words and use proper capitalization. And for goodness sake spell check stuff before you post. And, for those of you who write fan fic - people talk in contractions more often than not, at least American people. Thankfully none of the people on my flist have this issue.

Can you tell I've been trying to find a good fan fic to read and haven't been having any luck? A good chunk of people just can't write. They have decent story ideas but the characters are all wrong and the grammar makes me cringe. So after about three paragraphs I get so annoyed I have to abandon the fic regardless of how interesting the story seems. Cause some people just cannot write. *grrrrrrrr*

Okay, rant over. Feel free to ignore this post completely.

And for goodness sake spell check stuff be for you post.

Should be 'before'. XD Sorry. Found that funny in an ironic sort of way.

Why can't the English
Teach their children how to speak?
Norwegians learn Norwegian,
The Greeks are taught their Greek.
In France every Frenchman
Knows his language from A to Zed.
The French don't care what they do, actually
As long as they pronounce it properly.

Sorry...had a random "My Fair Lady" moment. Heh.

Don't worry Shalla. You can read my novel when I'm finished with it. I am doing my best to make it as well written as possible :)

And I totally agree about the internet grammar thing. Nothing irritates me more than seeing "lol g2g" on a page. Or when someone substitutes "u" for "you". Oh, I must stop or I'll start a rant of my own.

Ahhh! Jack icon. :-D Love.

I am completely with you on the grammar issues in fanfics, lately. I hate it when I'm reading something, coasting along, getting into the story, and then a simple mistake smacks me in the face and throws me right out of the moment. :-P

If I can ever get my bloody fic finished(It's taunting me!! I hate being stuck.) I'll give you something to read, I hope. :) It's mildly fluffy, as I've had enough emo in my life lately, and I wanted something smiley. LOL

*giggle* I guess I should have included "please proofread for stuff that spell check won't catch" and then followed that advice :)

You write better than that...most of the time :)

Yay. And nothing annoys me more than "u" for "you". Such a pain. I don't mind "lol" but the rest of it annoys me. What's really hilarious is the people who use internet speak in their fic summaries. It's like broadcasting "I can't write so don't read my story."

I think I have that same problem when starting to read stories. If there's way too many grammer issues, it's a big turn off, no matter how interesting the story might be.

I agree- I don't mind it in entries, but in stories, it should be proper grammar.

Some of the Star Wars novels (published) totally get the characters wrong- that's annoying (but some are *really* good).

Maybe someday I'll post a fan fic- that is, if I ever get the time to sit down and write one. ;) But I'm a terrible speller- thank God for spell check! :D
