Oh geez. That is so incredibly sad I can't think of the words for it. Those poor, poor girls. Good for her though for having the guts enough to defend herself in the first place. Thankfully though, she won't be held accountable where it really makes a difference. And personally, if I couldn't get out of a country like that I think I would rather die than continue living like that. I can't even fathom how terrible it must be for young girls over there.
I would have sentenced those guys that tried to rape the women. That is seriously backwards. You don't hang the victims, you help the victims. Those so-called "boyfriends" should be ashamed of themselves, running away like that. I wander where they were during the hearings.
Iran is not exactly known for its ethical treatment of women. Most of the stories of said treatment coming from that country are as horrific. Shalla, have you read Reading Lolita in Tehran? If not, you certainly should. It's a memoir with a backdrop of literary criticisms. Or it's a series of literary criticisms with a backdrop formed by a memoir. I'm not sure which. ha ha ha ha. Both parts of the story seem equally important. But it's an excellent read.
